Essential oils are highly fragrant and volatile, they are extracted from flowers, leaves, twigs, bark, roots, and fruits of many common plants. The essential oils have many different properties and as research has shown can be stimulants, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, relaxants, calming, soothing and uplifting. Aromatherapy, therefore, has the ability to affect the emotions, feelings, help bodily symptoms and work psychologically.
Aromatherapy is used for a wide range of problems, including pain relief; anxiety and stress-related conditions; insomnia; headaches, arthritis; rheumatism and menstrual problems. It is sometimes available in maternity services and is widely used in palliative and cancer care in hospitals and hospices.
Research indicates that aromatherapy massage may be helpful for the short-term relief of anxiety and that certain essential oils may relieve some symptoms associated with dementia. There is some promising evidence that tea tree oil could be useful in treating acne and fungal infections.
I like to give everyone a personalized treatment, this entails having a consultation and treatment when you first book in with me (unless it is for a taster). I always allow two hours for this as it gives time to go through everything and to have a great treatment. Each session is personalized and so, therefore, I do not use a ready made up blend of oils. I offer essential oils for you to smell, and you tell me if you like them or not, and from there a blend is made. This is where the wonderment of Aromatherapy comes in for no two sessions are the same.
Aromatherapy can benefit almost everyone, helping a wide range of disorders. Essential oils must be diluted and used with care. When used correctly, aromatherapy is safe for everyone.
